Senate confirms Trump pick to lead independent Nuclear Regulatory Commission

- 에너지 수급의 지역적 차이가 많은 우리나라의 상황에서 정부는 지난해 8월부터 기업이 전기 사용 신청을 하면 전력망의 안정성 등을 따져 승인하는 전력 계통 영향평가를 실시하고 있다.
- 현재 데이터센터 운영 목적으로 290건의 신청 중 195건(67%)이 수도권에 집중됐다.
- 이들 데이터센터가 사용할 전기를 합치면 20GW, 원자로 20기에 해당하는 양이다.
- 기업의 신청을 다 들어주면 수도권 일대에 전력 마비를 불러올 것이다.
- 결국 정부가 데이터센터를 분산시킬 수 있는 인센티브 구조를 만들어 에너지 병목을풀 수밖에 없다.
Russia-Niger MoU on nuclear energy cooperation
- A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Russia's Rosatom and the Ministry of Energy in Niger to cooperate on using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
- The country now produces around 5% of world uranium mining output, but operating permits for mines including GoviEx's Madouela project and Orano's Imouraren were withdrawn following a military coup in July 2023.
