Korean SMRs to be considered for Norwegian project
- Norway's Trondheimsleia Kjernekraft AS and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power are to conduct a feasibility study on the construction of a power plant based on multiple Korean-designed i-SMR reactors in the municipalities of Aure and Heim.
- Aure and Heim is one of four possible locations for a nuclear power plant that Norsk Kjernekraft has announced, the other municipalities being Vardø, Øygarden and Halden.
- In January this year, KHNP signed a memorandum of understanding with Norsk Kjernekraft, agreeing to actively cooperate in sharing information for the introduction of the i-SMR and conducting preliminary feasibility studies on candidate sites.
Tomari 3 meets safety requirements, regulator concludes
- Unit 3 of Hokkaido Electric Power Company's Tomari nuclear power plant - Japan's newest power reactor - has moved a step closer to restarting after the country's Nuclear Regulation Authority concluded the unit meets revised safety standards.
- After approving a draft report in April this year, following a period for public comments the NRA has now formally adopted its findings that unit 3 meets the new regulatory safety standards and has issued Hokkaido EPC a permit to make changes to the reactor installation. It becomes the 18th Japanese reactor to pass the regulator's safety screenings.
- The NRA is still reviewing the safety of Tomari units 1 and 2.
계속운전 공백 줄이기 속도… 한빛 원전 재가동 앞당긴다
- 원전 10기의 계속 운전을 추진하고 있는 한국수력원자력이 허가 만료 이후의 운영공백을 줄이기 위한 작업에 속도를 내 한빛 1·2호기의 재가동 목표 시점을 앞당기고월성 2·3·4호기의 운영변경허가 신청을 올해 완료한다는 계획이다.
- 30일 원전 업계에 따르면 한수원은 당초 2027년 6월로 잡았던 한빛 1·2호기의 재가동 목표 시점을 3개월가량 앞당기기로 했다.
- 원안위도 3년 이상 소요되는 계속운전 심사 기간을 단축시키기 위해 중복되는 심사 항목을 개선하는 준비하고 있지만, 현재 추진되고 있는 원전 10기에는 적용되지 않을 전망이다.
