Massive Blackout Reignites Debate Over Nuclear Power In Spain
- The unprecedented blackout that struck mainland Spain and Portugal earlier this week has reignited the cultural and political battle over the future of nuclear energy, El Pais reported.
- The Spanish-language daily said Spain’s current energy roadmap – endorsed by the European Commission – outlines a gradual phaseout of the country’s five commercial nuclear power plants.
- However, the opposition conservative People’s Party (PP) and far-right Vox have long championed nuclear power and vehemently oppose the government’s decommissioning plans.
Japan’s Nuclear Regulator Says Tomari-3 In Compliance With New Safety Standards
- Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority on 30 April approved a draft screening report that found the Tomari-3 nuclear power plant on the northern island of Hokkaido to be in compliance with new safety standards, effectively paving the way for its restart.
- It means Tomari-3, an 866-MW pressurised water reactor (PWR) unit that originally began commercial operation in 2009, could become the 15th commercial nuclear plant to return to service since the Fukushima disaster in 2011.
체코 총리 “한수원과 7일 신규 원전 계약”... 26조원 규모
- 총사업비 약 26조 원(4000억 코루나) 규모의 체코 신규 원전 사업의 본계약 체결식이오는 7일로 확정됐다. 2009년 아랍에미리트(UAE) 바라카 원전 수주 이후 16년 만에 신규 원전 건설 계약이다.
- 체코 신규 원전 건설 사업은 체코 두코바니 지역에 1000MW(메가와트)급 원전인 두코바니 5·6호기를 건설하는 프로젝트다. 한수원은 이번 본계약 체결 이후 한전기술, 대우건설, 두산에너빌리티 등과 설계, 시공, 기자재 조달 등과 관련한 후속 계약을맺을 예정이다.
