IAEA 사무총장, 韓 원잠 추진에 "핵확산 조장하지 않는다는 보장 필요
- 라파엘 그로시 IAEA 사무총장이 한국의 원자력 추진 잠수함(원잠) 도입 추진에 대해 “핵 확산을 조장하지 않는다는 철통 같은(ironclad) 보장이 있어야 한다”고 밝혔다.
- 그는 “원잠 도입을 원하는 나라들은 특별한 절차와 조율을 IAEA와 거쳐야 한다”고 말했다.
- 그로시 사무총장은 원잠에 쓰이는 우라늄 원료를 IAEA가 감시하는 데 대해 “중요한 기술적인고려 사항이 있다”며 “장기간 운항하는 선박 특성상 (잠수함에 사용하는) 핵 물질이 사찰단감시 범위에서 벗어난다”고 했다.

- South Carolina’s state-owned utility company hopes to know by the first half of 2028 whether a $2.7 billion deal to revive the state’s failed nuclear expansion will officially go through.
- Santee Cooper reached an initial agreement in December with New York investment firm Brookfield Asset Management for the purchase of two partially built nuclear reactors at the V.C. Summer nuclear plant in Fairfield County.
- The ultimate date of the payment, which Santee Cooper plans to use to remove reactor-related debt from customers’ power bills, remains contingent on Brookfield finalizing its investment decision.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission hosts community meeting on Duane Arnold restart
- The next step to bring nuclear energy back to Iowa happened - with a team from the U.S. NRC meeting with community members regarding their review of Duane Arnold Energy Center.
- If the plant continues to pass inspections as activity ramps up, member of the restart team thinks they could approve the license in January 2028.
- The plant would serve the proposed Google data center as owner NextEra Energy has signed a 25-year agreement with Google.
