New Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power CEO vows to expand global footprint
- Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power said Wednesday that new CEO Kim Hoe-chun has officially taken office to lead the state-run company over the next three years.
- The chief executive said that he would establish a dual-track strategy of focusing on large-scale nuclear reactors and SMRs, at the same time to gain a stronger foothold in the global market.
- "We will successfully carry out already secured overseas projects while pursuing tailored bidding strategies to enter new markets," Kim said.
Finland looks to reform nuclear energy legislation
- In a move aimed at streamlining regulation and licensing of future nuclear power projects, the Finnish government has submitted a proposal to parliament for a new Nuclear Energy Act.
- The primary objectives of the reform are to keep the use of nuclear energy in line with the overall interest of society, to ensure the safety of operations and the responsible management of nuclear waste generated in Finland.
- It is intended to ensure that the use of nuclear energy does not contribute to the proliferation of nuclear weapons and that Finland complies with EU regulations and its international nuclear obligations.

Planning for Swedish SMR plant proceeds
- Swedish lead-cooled SMR developer Blykalla said it plans to proceed with the next phase of planning in Norrsundet, Gävle, in east central Sweden.
- The proposed SMR plant is envisioned to consist of six of Blykalla's SEALER reactors, with a total generating capacity of about 300 MW.
- Blykalla said it aims to initiate the permitting process later this year.
