NRC issues construction permit for first Natrium plant
- The US NRC has approved a construction permit for TerraPower's Kemmerer unit 1 project - the first such permit for a commercial-scale non-light water reactor in the country for four decades.
- The review was completed in 18 months after a streamlined mandatory hearing process.
- The NRC said that TerraPower subsidiary US SFR Owner would need to submit a separate operating licence application which would need NRC approval.
Japanese Courts Reject Lawsuits Seeking To Block Shika Restart And Ikata Operation
- The Toyama district court dismissed a lawsuit seeking to prevent Hokuriku Electric Power from restarting Units 1 and 2 at the Shika nuclear power station.
- The Yamaguchi District Court rejected a request by residents of neighbouring Yamaguchi prefecture to stop the operation of the Ikata-3 PWR.
- Japan has 33 commercially available units, 15 of which have now resumed operation under stringent post-Fukushima rules.
