US Nuclear Regulator Accepts Partial Construction Permit Application For Holtec's Palisades SMRs
- The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has accepted the first part of a construction permit application for review from US-based Holtec International for two SMR-300 small modular reactor (SMR) units in the state of Michigan.
- The NRC also said that its final safety evaluation report and final environmental impact report for the project would be available in March 2027.
- A decision on a limited work authorisation would then be made by June 2027.
한-튀르키예, ‘에너지 장관회담’ 개최
- 기후에너지환경부(장관 김성환/이하 기후부)는 2월 25일 서울에서 튀르키예 에너지천연자원부(장관 알파르슬란 바이락타르)와 회담을 갖고 에너지 전환 전반에 대한 협력 방안을 논의했다.
- 향후 튀르키예 정상 방한 시 구체적 협력 성과를 모색하기 위한 자리로 재생에너지, 전력망, 원전·SMR을 아우르는 포괄적인 에너지 협력 방안에 초점을 맞춰 진행됐다.
- 튀르키예는 신규원전 건설과 소형모듈화원전(SMR) 도입을 검토하고 있으며, 한국은대형원전 건설 경험과 함께 독자적 혁신형 SMR 개발을 추진하고 있다.
Urenco to supply fuel for Deep Fission reactors
- Deep Fission, which aims to place small modular reactors in boreholes a mile underground, has signed an agreement to purchase LEU from Urenco USA to support demonstration and testing of its initial Gravity reactor, as well as early commercial operations.
- Deep Fission broke ground in December at the Great Plains Industrial Park in Parsons, Kansas, for its pilot project.
- Deep Fission was founded in 2023 by father-daughter team Elizabeth and Richard Muller, who also co-founded Deep Isolation in 2016.
