Philippines steps toward nuclear power
- Philippines power company Manila Electric Co(Meralco) has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Electricité de France(EDF) to explore the potential of nuclear energy deployment in the Philippines.
- Meralco signed a two-year memorandum of cooperation with EDF, under which EDF will provide technical and strategic support to Meralco for a feasibility study focused on site activities, power system integration, and the economic viability of nuclear power in the energy mix.
First main pump installed in Chinese SMR
- The first of four main pumps has been installed at the ACP100 small modular reactor demonstration project, under construction at the Changjiang site on China's island province of Hainan, China National Nuclear Corporation has announced.
- China National Nuclear Corporation(CNNC) said the installation of the first pump
- which it refers to as the "heart" of the reactor coolant system - "further demonstrates China's comprehensive strength in the design of new nuclear energy systems, high-end equipment manufacturing and coordinated management of complex projects".
US government to ship enriched uranium to Oak Ridge nuclear fuel plant planning 400 jobs
- The U.S. Department of Energy will ship specialized uranium to a nuclear fuel plant under construction in Oak Ridge, bridging a gap in the domestic uranium supply chain for a company with plans to create hundreds of local jobs.
- It plans to begin construction on its first plant in July or August, having originally planned to open in 2025. A second plant slated for Oak Ridge will increase the local TRISO-X workforce to around 1,000 people.
