NRC introduces microreactor regulatory framework
- The NRC has released a new licensing framework for micro-reactors and similar reactor designs that may provide a more suitable pathway for applicants with simpler technologies.
- The proposed rule—known as Part 57—is the latest to come out of the NRC’s rules review and overhaul stemming from the ADVANCE Act and 2025 nuclear-related executive orders.
- While the proposed rule doesn’t spell it out, Part 57 is intended for reactors that are 100 MWe or smaller, Nieh said.
“글로벌 SMR 제조 파운드리 구축 본격화” 경남도, SMR 제조 2단계 기반구축사업 ‘SMR 시험검사 지원센터’ 공모 선정
- 경상남도는 SMR 제조부품 시험검사지원센터 건립사업’ 공모에 최종 선정되어, 국비 92억 5천만 원을 포함한 총 275억 원 규모의 국책사업을 유치했다고 28일 밝혔다.
- 센터가 들어설 창원 국가산업단지 확장 2구역에는 SMR 로봇활용 제작지원센터(2024~2028, 323억 원)가 구축 중인데 두 시설이 나란히 들어서면서, 경남에는 SMR 부품 제조부터 시험· 검사·인증까지 한 곳에서 처리할 수 있는 전국 유일 원스톱 SMR 생산·검증 라인이 완성된다.
- 이번 사업은 예타 면제로 올해부터 추진되는 2,695억 원 규모의 ‘SMR 혁신제조 국산화 기술개발사업(2026~2031)’과도 연계된다.
Hot tests completed at second San'ao unit
- Tests that simulate the temperatures and pressures which the reactor systems will be subjected to during normal operation have been completed at unit 2 of the San'ao nuclear power plant in China's Zhejiang province.
- The unit is the second of six HPR1000s (Hualong Ones) planned at the site.
- Upon completion, the project will provide more than 54 TWh of electricity annually to Zhejiang Province and the Yangtze River Delta region, reducing standard coal consumption by more than 16 million tonnes and carbon dioxide emissions by more than 51 million tonnes annually, CGN noted.
