Energy chief envisions US nuclear renaissance: restoring ‘pit’ production, localizing nuke power
- Energy Secretary Chris Wright discussed how the U.S. can bring nuclear power to the fore for both energy and defense purposes, starting with rebooting otherwise dormant "pit" production.
- In addition to the large-scale plants, Wright said the Energy Department seeks to forward SMR or Small Modular Reactor technology, which he said could be groundbreaking in terms of powering underserved communities and important or sensitive sites that may be far from established large-scale plants.
First main pump for Chinese SMR shipped
- The first of four main pumps for China's ACP100 small modular reactor demonstration project has passed factory acceptance tests and been shipped to the construction site at the Changjiang on the island province of Hainan.
- Once completed, the Changjiang ACP100 reactor will be capable of producing 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to meet the needs of 526,000 households. The reactor is designed for electricity production, heating, steam production or seawater desalination.
한수원 사장, 카자흐 원자력청장과 회동...최종계약 총력
- 황주호 한국수력원자력 사장이 카자흐스탄 원전 산업을 총괄하는 원자력청 (Nuclear Energy Agency)과 회동을 가졌다. 카자흐스탄 최초의 대형원전 프로젝트를 책임질 공급업체를 선정하기 위한 최종 관문인 셈이다.
